(ANS - Rome)- The Faculty of Sciences of Social Communication (FSC) of the Salesian Pontifical University is now approaching its twenty-fifth birthday (1989-2014). Next Monday, 9 December, Fr Pascual Chávez, Rector Major and Chancellor of the UPS, will open the year of celebration.
In fact, the Institute of Social Communication (ISCOS) - predecessor of the FSC - was officially born in the centenary year of the death of Don Bosco, on 17 December 1988, as evidenced by the date on the Holy See’s document of approval. The first academic year began in October 1989 with fifteen students, and the solemn inauguration took place on 8 December 1989.
The celebrations will go on from 9 December 2013 to 8 December 2014, with a substantial number of events. Among the many activities planned for this year, the main one will be an international conference entitled The future of communication: theories, techniques and teaching to be held in the UPS on Friday and Saturday, 14-15 November 2014.
The celebrations will be inaugurated by Fr Chávez at a meeting in Room CS1 from 17.30 to 18.45 on Monday 9 December. The event is open to all and can be followed live on the website of the Faculty.
On this special occasion the Faculty invites teachers, students, past pupils and friends to look at the significant progress made to date and what remains to be done in the future. During the meeting, Prof. Maria Paola Piccini will present the results of research conducted on FSC past pupils, and their job opportunities. Prof. Paola Springhetti and Prof. Vittorio will present the Agency Young4young.
The event will begin with greetings from the Dean of the Faculty of Social Communication, Prof. Mauro Mantovani, and will close with that of the Rector of the UPS, Prof. Carlo Nanni.
