(ANS - Madrid) - On 28 November, in Madrid the Spanish Catholic Commission for Children awarded the 2013 Isabel Niño prize to the Salesian publisher Edebé Illustrations, for the work done by the illustrator Mariona Cabassa in the book Érase una vez la familia (Once upon a time there was a family) by the authors Anna Gasol and Teressa Blanch. The work also won the prestigious international award, "White Ravens" in 2012.

The CCEI prize has been awarded since 1993 to the best illustrated book. The jury that awarded the prize is composed of the best professionals in the world of book illustration.

Érase una vez la familiais made up of short stories that keep the tone of the spoken word and are enriched with special illustrations by the artist Mariona Cabassa (Barcelona, 1977). This is a selection of stories from different cultures, in which the protagonists are families of very different kinds. The book allows young readers to travel from the dunes of the desert to the plains of the American Indians, through the frozen steppes of Russia and the rugged mountains of China.

The actors are incredible animals that came from the brush of the artist Cabassa: camels, wild boars, turtles, lions, jellyfish, cattle, fish, frogs and toads, and various types of birds - pigeons, toucans, herons, emus, falcons ... Each illustration is a unique fabric of textures and colours.

Mariona Cabassa studied illustration and graphic design at the Massana School in Barcelona. She did her Master's degree in illustration and engraving at the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs in Strasbourg and a second one at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Marseilles. Since 2001 she has worked with various publishing houses in Spain and abroad. Her works regularly appear in magazines, newspapers and editorial publications in Spain, France, Italy, England and Portugal and the author is often invited to participate in exhibitions and competitions, where she frequently emerges victorious.

The publisher Edebé figures among the 2013 winners of the CCEI also in the Juvenile Literature category, with the work of Cesare Mallorquí, La isla de Bowen.
