(ANS – Manaus) – On Thursday, August 8, the Regional Councillor for the Southern American Cone, Fr. Natale Vitali, began the Extraordinary Visitation of Brazil-Manuas, where the centennial celebration of Salesian presence will start in the coming days.
Following the tradition, the Extraordinary Visit was begun in a meeting with the Provincial Superior, Fr. Francisco Alves De Lima, together with the members of his council. Then the next day Fr. Vitali went to Ananindeua, where he first met the staff of the Salesian Institute "La Vergine del Carmine," which educates more than 530 children; and then the community of the "Nostra Signora delle Grazie" Parish.
The visit of Fr. Vitali will continue until the 21st of October, with a short break at the end of September.
The St. Dominic Savio Province of Manaus now has 17 Salesian houses and nearly 100 professed Salesians. A distinctive feature of this province has always been its focus on indigenous people, which has led to numerous vocations. Currently, there are 14 Salesians belonging to some indigenous ethnic groups, of which 4 are already priests.
To coincide with the centennial celebrations, the province had already scheduled an ordination ceremony of another four indigenous Salesians.
