(ANS – Guatemala City) – On the 7th of August 2013, the Extraordinary Visitation for the "Divine Saviour" Province of Central America (CAM) officially started with the meeting of the Regional Councillor for Interamerica, Fr. Esteban Ortiz and Fr. Alejandro Hernández Villalobos, Provincial superior with the Provincial Council.
The Province currently has 173 Salesians and 24 communities, among them there are also 2 missionary presences: One in Alta Verapaz, in San Pedro Carchá, and the other in the Vicariate of El Peten, in San Benito.
There are six countries that make up the CAM Province: Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama.
Among its works, the Province also has two universities: the Università Mesoamericana, based in Guatemala, and the Università Don Bosco, located in El Salvador.
One of the main challenges facing the Salesians of CAM, is the situation of many young people socially at risk, especially those that become part of the Maras, a youth gang. For this, the Province is committed to a renewal of the works based on this preferential option, with a clear commitment to revive the oratory and offer better educational qualifications for young people in view of their needs.
The Extraordinary Visitation will be completed in mid-November 2013.
