(ANS – Granada) – On Sunday May 13, at the “San Juan Bosco” Institute of Granada, the Salesian Youth Penetecost was held. Over 800 young people, from all the Salesian centres in the country, took part in this activity. The motto of the gathering was: “The living Church and young people committed to the Gospel message.”
The Salesian Youth Pentecost is an activity promoted by the Salesians and the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians for the young people of the Salesian Youth Movement (MGS), for them to renew their commitment in the Church and promote apostolic commitment in the various groups they belong to.
The gathering place was the cathedral of the city, from which the groups moved off in procession towards the Salesian Institute, carrying placards of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. During the colourful parade, accompanied by a band and flags, the young people sang and chanted the motto of the gathering.
After arriving at the Institute they joined enthusiastically in the celebration of Mass, presided over by Fr. Víctor Ramos and animated by the youth choir of the Institute. At the offertory the boys and girls carried various symbols of youth to the altar, and also a history book recording the arrival of the Salesians in Nicaragua.
After Mass the 800 youngsters divided into groups and took part in several workshops on the meaning of the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit, commitment as believers through associations, the history of Salesians in Nicaragua and vocational research. Each group then illustrated the fruit of their reflections with short dramatic sketches.
The meeting ended with a “Zumba” rhythm, a dance with a series of aerobic movements which made the gathering even more enjoyable and youthful.
