Italy – 78th Half-yearly Assembly of the USG |
(ANS – Rome) – Yesterday, 24 November, the half-yearly Assembly of the Union of Superiors General (USG) heard a series of talks on the topic “The New Evangelisation.” This morning the General Assembly of the USG was held.
The second working day of the USG Assembly on the subject “Transmitting the Faith” focused more specifically on the topic “The New Evangelisation.”
Again Fr Salvatore Currò CSJ gave the first talk on “New evangelisation in the context of consecrated life.” He offered three possible areas for research starting from evangelisation in itself, then at this present time and finally the apostolic support that consecrate life can offer.
Then evangelisation was considered from different perspectives according to different charisms and spiritualities present in consecrated life. Fr Eamon Fitzgerald, a Trappist, reflected on the “Lineamenta” for the XIII ordinary general assembly of the Synod, relating them to the present day situation of the monastic-contemplative life.
Fr Bruno Cadore, a Dominican, briefly illustrated four ways by which the mendicant orders, remaining faithful to their origins, can collaborate in the evangelising mission of the mendicants: wandering, begging, meeting and study.
The Superior of the Combonian Fathers Fr Enrique Sánchez, in his talk, linked the meaning of evangelisation with bearing witness, recalling some contributions that the missionary Congregations can make: poverty, the prophetic role, the freshness of the faith, a joyful spirituality.
In the afternoon there was group work and discussion and in the evening Archbishop Joseph William Tobin, Secretary of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, presided at Mass.
Today Friday 25 November, at the General Assembly of the USG, the representatives at the Synod of Bishops in October 2012 were elected:
