(ANS – Cayambe) – During November, in the Province of Pichincha, Bolívar and Loja in Ecuador, 800 young people from the country areas have been involved in reflection and discussion in order to ask from the civil authorities the restoration of their rights until now violated in the country. At Cayambe, the Salesian House has hosted a first meeting on 17-18 November, as part of the five-year plan to create “Schools of Citizenship and Interculturality.”
Local and National authorities were invited to attend to listen to the young people and to the requests set out in a special document. “Letter-Request,” aims at producing structural change –short and long term, for the children and young people of Ecuador.
The aim of the five year programme “Schools of Citizenship and Interculturality,” is to provide opportunities for the involvement of the young and to bring about change through the support of citizens in solidarity and the respect for the Rights of the Child and putting into effect the necessary legislation in the existing Code of Infancy and Adolescence.
