(ANS – Rome) – After the first set of material for  Salesian Missionary Day (SMD) 2012, was presented and distributed in July, the multimedia box with videos and  digital material is now ready and will shortly be distributed to Salesian houses. The theme is “Telling the Story of Jesus “ inspired by the Congress held in Chiang Mai, in Thailand, in 2006 (Telling the story of Jesus), and Asia the continent in focus.

The box contains  two DVD: one of videos, the other multimedia.
The first Salesian Missionary Day 2012 has 9 films: one of an introductory nature which sets the scene in a context of a hundred years of missionary history and 8 others showing work undertaken in Asia by Salesians in the area of  the evangelisation of the young.

Six short documentaries describe the Salesians at work in  India, Thailand and the Philippines:

  • North of Calcutta. On the frontier of the mission – The Salesians in the “Saint John Bosco” Province of India have two foundations in West  Bengal where in addition to the pastoral care of the Catholics they also evangelise, in a special way, Telling the Story of Jesus.
  • In dialogue with cultures. The miracle of Shillong – On the uplands of the Khasi Hills, in addition to traditional educational work the Salesians are preserving the cultural heritage of the local peoples and evangelising on the frontier with Bangladesh.
  • Don Bosco's Madonna. Hic domus mea, inde gloria mea – The Mumbai Province has a Marian heart, the sanctuary dedicated to Mary Help of Christians from where there is great deal of spiritual development thanks also to the magazine “Don Bosco's Madonna”.
  • Knowing, training, witnessing, seeds of mission in Thailand – How do you tell the story of Jesus in a context where the majority of the population is Buddhist? How do the missionaries work, dialogue and especially evangelise? The Salesians in Thailand tell their story.
  • Chiang Mai, shoots of evangelisation – The Salesians in the north of Thailand are working with poor children in three places: “Don Bosco Farm” in Saankampheng, the Don Bosco Centre in Doi-Saket and in collaboration with the Sacred Heart Fathers in the Mae Ponn mission.
  • Small communities, The Salesian parish in Mandaluyong City – The pastoral work of the Salesians in Mandaluyong City has  three foundations: Basic Church Communities, evening school for youngsters who drop out of school and community voluntary service.

The final two video describe:

  • How the Sons of  Don Bosco are working and evangelising in a situation of other religions - The Salesians among peoples of other faiths – where living side by side with people of other faiths is a daily reality;
  • Evangelisation in the field of communication: Evangelising with Social Communications

The second DVD contains:

  • A collection of good quality photographs
  • A digital version of the booklet, the poster and prayer already distributed in a paper version;
  • The texts of the 9 videos and other documents for further reflection and study.

As with previous collections of material the box has been produced by cooperation between the Departments for the Missions and for Social Communication and Missioni Don Bosco.
