(ANS – San Isidro de El General) – On Sunday 19 June in the sports hall of the “La Asunción” Institute in Pérez Zeledón, Costa Rica, the young people of the Diocese of San Isidro de El General came together to celebrate “Diocesan Youth Pentecost,” with the motto of the approaching World Youth Day: “Planted and built up in Jesus Christ, firm in the faith.”
The Day began with Mass at which Bishop Guillermo Loría Garita of San Isidro El General, encouraged the young people to be “the living face of the Church.” “Don’t keep your arms folded but rather raise them high to proclaim the message of the Gospel to those young people desperately looking for life; be firm in the faith and work to make society better”, he added.
At the end of Mass the subject was introduced and the diocesan vocation promoter invited them not be afraid to give their lives in the service of the Lord. The evening ended with a Concert by the: “Ephesines 6,10” Group a band which uses music to make God known.
There were about 1,500 young people taking part from all the parishes of the diocese. Each parish brought its own banner and posters and all were identifiable by the Youth Ministry vests from their own area.
The Youth Event was broadcast by Radio Sinai, from the diocese, and Radio Maria of Guadalupe. There were also some teams from local TV stations present. It was organised by a group appointed by the Diocesan Youth Commission led by the Salesians Fr Mario Rodríguez and Fr Miguel Angel Cano.
