(ANS – Rome) – In the context of the “The Educational Game” campaign, the National Centre for Salesian Works and Sport (CNOS Sport) has signed an agreement with the Italian Archery Federation (FITARCO) to work together.

The agreement was signed on Thursday 24 March in Rome at the Headquarters of the Federation, by the President of CNOS Sport, Fr Claudio Belfiore and the President of the FITARCO, Dr. Mario Scarzella. Starting from the idea of sport as a form of education, the agreement expresses the intention of CNOS Sport to appreciate the educative and social value of archery and that of FITARCO to promote and spread the sport in Salesian centres.

“I often say, somewhat provocatively,” Fr Belfiore remarked, “that as Salesians we are not interested in encouraging a particular sport but education though sport. Through this agreement , and everything we do in CNOS Sport we want youngsters to acquire positive values, in particular in archery.”

“We are very pleased with this valuable new form of collaboration,” Dr. Scarzella added. “in the basic development of our National movement always involved in fostering healthy principles in sport. We want archery to be practised by many young people especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds and are delighted that we can count of the support of the Salesians”.

On the basis of the agreement archery will gradually be introduced in Salesian youth centres, starting with one oratory in each Region. On its part FITARCO, will make available its own federal instructors and technical equipment according to the “Educational Game” campaign

In anticipation of the World Archery Championships  to be held in Turin between 2 and 17 July CNOS Sport will also use the occasion to present its own activities and the “Educational Game” campaign
