Dear Fr Sylvain,
With Don Bosco’s heart I greet you, each and everyone of the confreres in the Vice Province of Haiti.
My greeting, accompanied by a very special remembrance in the Mass, is also addressed to the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, all the members of the Salesian Family, the Co-workers, the Friends of Don Bosco and the young people in our houses.
For a number of days now I have been remembering the tragedy which hit all the people of Haiti so hard, with a devastating earthquake leaving in its wake a sad trail of destruction, death, sorrow and despair.
I want to congratulate you since, having suffered the loss of three Salesian confreres including dear Bro Sannon, and having seen so many of our works destroyed, you immediately rolled up your sleeves and set to work bringing comfort, hope and relief to so many people.
The way in which the centres were opened up to welcome those who had lost everything was exemplary.
To you and to all the confreres go my admiration, thanks and compliments.
Through me the Congregation has wanted to remain close to you and has pledged itself to pursue the massive enterprise of re-construction
This has been slower than was anticipated for many reasons, but the project is going ahead with the same conviction and commitment.
I send you my very best wishes, the blessing of Mary Help of Christians, and I assurance that you are in my thoughts, We are in communion of hearts and prayers.
Very affectionately, in Don Bosco
Fr Pascual Chávez V.
