Fr P.X. Francis, the Chief of Boscoree, welcomed at the at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Dimapur over 2000 scouts and guide and their leaders from various parts of India. Then he officially handed over the charge of the Boscoree, to the camp chief Mr. K.S. Charles, who is currently the assistant youth director of the Archdiocese of Imphal.
Fr. Nestor Guria, Vice Provincial of Dimapur, on behalf of the Provincial, the confreres and the Boscoree organizing committee, welcomed the dignitaries and the participants, including which included Fr. Joe Almeida, Provincial of Guwahati, Fr. Dominic Sequeira, member of the International Youth Pastoral team, based at Rome, Fr. Maria Charles, South Asian Delegate for DBYA, South Asian coordinator for Education and Culture and secretary to AIDBES,
In his opening address he emphasized the cultural richness of the various cultures of India. He encouraged active participation in the current Boscoree telling them to enkindle the spirit of Don Bosco and Baden Powell. “Get to know each other, share your talents and get enriched” added Fr. Joe Almeida, Salesian Provincial of Guwahati, in his address to the participants. He said that “You have come from various parts of India as messengers of peace. May peace which Jesus brought be a reality in our lives.”
Fr. Dominic Sequeira, conveyed the greetings of Fr. Pascual Chavez, Rector Major, Fr. Fabio Attard, Councillor for Youth Pastoral, and Fr. Maria Arokiam Kanaga, Regional Councillor for South Asia. In his address, he highlighted the similarities between Don Bosco and Baden Powell. Both of whom lost their fathers at an early age. Both had a dream to give youth a good future and great tomorrow. He pointed out that Don Bosco always considered groups and movements as the best means of educating youth because they are best suited to their life, age and interest.
On his part, Fr Charles, urged the participants to make the best use of the opportunities of Boscoree to build up their character, leadership qualities and abilities so that they can build a better India and a better world.
In the opening ceremony a glimpse of the rich and enchanting cultural heritage of the North East of India was showcased through colourful dances, melodious folk tunes and visual presentations.
