The wining project entitled “An educational programme in interior reflection at ESO” (Compulsory Secondary Education) was the work of teachers of religion, music, physical education and visual and plastic education coordinated by Prof. Jaume Bernadet, who works in the “San Vicente” Salesian School in Sant Vicenç dels Horts. According to the jury, “the programme and its methodology, represents an innovation in the specific field of formation in interior reflection in the school context.”
The primary aim of this project of educational research is “that of educating the students to interior reflection helping them to discover their own interior world, so that this leads them to ask questions about the values and significance of their lives” explained Professor Bernadet as he received the award.
After the award presentation to the school team, Dr. Pujol praised the fact that for the students it was a lesson in discovering that life has a meaning: “with this knowledge they will be happier at the personal level and more useful to society.” Along the same lines he added that this kind of educational approach can help students “to have a clearer idea of who they are, what they want to be and what they can be.” Finally he remarked that “ values are habits which can be transformed into virtues, which give meaning to ones’ plans.”
The educational research project was launched in 2007-08 and was employed for the first time with the classes of 2009-10 in secondary school. The activities undertaken by the students start from the presentation of certain basic ideas: –bodily silence, the integration of emotions, openness to the transcendent – and through a variety of techniques and different kinds of practical work. The project involves directly the Pastoral Department of the School and the Psycho-pedagogical Services.
The “Edu21” Educational Award is intended to stimulate reflection and research on those innovative activities which have been developed, or at least are meant to be developed, in the classroom by teachers at various levels of the educative curriculum.
