The group made up of 10 young people who attend the Salesian centre in Honiara and 4 young workers from GRML, began the course on Friday 24 at the Don Bosco Retreat Centre in Kola Ridge, with a talk on the theory of audio-communications.
On Saturday they visited Radio Paoa, where they were shown round by Joel Lamani who took them to the production and recording studios. “Be positive, and above all be yourselves” was the advice he gave them.
This course is the first stage in a joint project of formation for the young people of the company and the Salesians in the Solomon Islands. One of the youngsters on the course, Comfort Livett, said that it had been a very useful experience and had helped the group to grow in confidence: “The three days were very positive and enjoyable; it was a revelation for me, and I hope the beginning of an important career.”
Mrs Maria Fay Maeni, who was present as a supervisor for GRML, explained that the purpose of the course was to provide suitable high quality training for the members of the company: “For GRML it is a priority to provide good information for the Gold Ridge community. I want to thank GMRL and the Salesians, with the hope that they will continue to work together.”
“The excellent spiritual formation of the course helps those taking part to understand their own gifts and capabilities and to develop them Both the Salesians and the GRML want to young people in our community to be appreciated. For this reason we are anxious to work together with them for the development of the community and the human resources”.
After this first step an advanced course in radio communication is being planned for next year between Radio Bosco and GMRL.
