(ANS – Sao Gabriel da Cachoeira) – “May God’s will be done” (Acts 21,14).  This was the motto of the ordination of Reginaldo Lima Cordeiro, an indigenous Salesian, deacon and student of Missiology at the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome who was ordained to the priesthood on 15 August, Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary, at Sao Gabriel da Cachoeira, in the Amazon Region.

The ordination of Fr. Lima Cordeiro has been a historic and memorable event for the population of the district of Sao Gabriel da Cachoeira. Fr. Lima belongs to the province of “St. Dominic Savio” of Brazil-Manaus (BMA), known better as the Salesian Missionary Province of the Amazonia.

Fr. Lima Cordeiro is the first indigenous person of this area to be ordained to the priesthood. Msgr. Edson Tasquetto Damian, bishop of Rio Negro was the ordaining bishop. Fr. Lima comes from the tribe of indios of the Arapaso culture and speaks the Tukana language. Fr. Lima’s ordination has been a special moment of grace for the whole province that witnesses a local Salesian become God’s minister, a sign that also reminds the indigenous people of Alto Rio Negro that God calls everyone for the mission among the various tribes that inhabit the Amazonia.
