After words of welcome from Sr María Alzira Silva de Souza there was a moment of prayer. Then Sr Maike Loes, Provincial Secretary, and Fr Sandro Poffo, Rector of the “Parque Dom Bosco” community in Itajaí, presented the conclusions of the “Meeting on Missionary activity and promotion” held in Quito, Ecuador, in September 2009.
From the various things said it was clear that in order to evangelise it is necessary to overcome any barriers. “Nowadays it is easier to cross geographical, cultural, social and political frontiers than to reach peoples hearts” Sr. Loes said. “The FMA came into being as a missionary community and this fact ought always to be a source of hope, so that tenderness and compassion may be the daily characteristics of the groups in solidarity.”
“Being co-responsible for the success or failure of an enterprise is something special,” said Fr Poffo, the Provincial Delegate for the missions. “We need to understand the priorities of each individual and of each region, understand the social and religious context. Without working together, it is impossible to overcome the challenges of missionary animation.”
The following day, Sunday 11, Fr Orestes Carlinhos Fistarol, Provincial of Brazil-Porto Alegre, presided at Mass. At the end he encouraged everyone to put into practice the decisions taken.
