Guided by their teacher David Ulloa the three young people from the Don Bosco Technical Institute in San Josè, part of “CEDES Don Bosco”, have developed a portable device for the sensory stimulation of handicapped people.
The students are part of the team from Costa Rica, which will compete with 1500 other young people from 60 countries. Before reaching the Intel ISEF Karol, Raquel and Andrey had to win preliminary heats. They were the winners of the Ist Intel National Competition (Costa Rica Intel ISEF) in which only the six finalists of the National Science and Technology Fair and the three finalists of the “Expo-Engineering” of Costa Rica compete.
Thanks to the support of the Intel Company of Costa Rica, the country began to take part in the Intel ISEF in 1998, and since then 65 young students have represented Costa Rica in the competition, achieving excellent results. Therefore it is not surprising that during the last four years the students of the “CEDES Don Bosco” Institute have distinguished themselves in this International Competition, living up to the observation made by the VIII Successor of Don Bosco, Fr Juan Edmundo Vecchi, when visiting Álajuela: “With Don Bosco and in tune with the times.”
