The Movement began in the ’60s in response to the problems facing the people of Juan Lacaze, which had over 4,000 workers and there was the need to provide entertainment and recreational facilities for the children and youngsters. Fr Miguel Inella came up with a solution and in the parish started the “AIM” Festive Camp
Hundreds of children and youngsters used to go to the parish in the mornings and afternoons to play, take part in the cineforum, the catechism lessons and various forms of recreation.
Today, 50 years on some things have changed: leading the AIM is no longer a priest but a team of 20 or 30 leaders who look after a number of groups of children and youngsters, for whom they provide films, camping, sports tournaments, competitions and well as many opportunities for reflection and catechism.
Radio AIM is the most significant novelty in recent times, since it is part of the life of the whole population. The inhabitants of Juan Lacaze, in fact, are used to saying: “Let celebrate, AIM is with us.”
Tomorrow, 29 January, in the “Miguel Campomar” Stadium there will be a huge demonstration in which all the Movement’s activities will be on display. Thanks to the formation and the recreation provided by the AIM leaders there is no longer any idleness among the children of Juan Lacaze.
