20/6/2008 - Italy - Gospel Music and solidarity for youngsters in Haiti

(ANS - Sesto San Giovanni) – On Sunday 22 June, between 20.30 and 23.00 (GMT+1) in the Sports Hall of Sesto San Giovanni there will be the 7th in the series of “Milan Gospel Festival”, a charity concert organised by the Salesians in collaboration with the Milan Gospel Group.

Taking part in the  concert will be some of the most famous national and international groups including, as guest of honour and for the first time in Italy, Claude McKnight, founder and member of the very well-known TAKE 6 from the USA.

On the programme to perform during the evening are “New Spirit Gospel Choir” from Germany; the “WakeUp Gospel Project”, winners of the last “Gospel Connection”; Junior Robinson from London. Among the best Italian Gospel Choirs will be: “Anno Domini”, the Aurelio Pitino Choir which has supported the “Milan Gospel Festival” from the beginning, Angela Baggi and “UGP Gospel Choir”, the “Peter Gospel Choir” from Naples joining for the occasion with the “Jubilation Gospel Choir” from Livorno, Wanted Chorus and the Milan Gospel Choir “Lift Your Voice “ with the American Robbie Merrick as soloist.
 
As well as featuring Gospel Music, the “Milan Gospel Festival” also aims at encouraging and expressing public solidarity for certain projects. Thanks to collaboration with the “Help the Children” Onlus Foundation, the proceeds of collections during this evening of the “Milan Gospel Festival” will go towards helping the “Sacre-Coeur” educational centre in Haiti provide accommodation for 200 primary school children. The project is being  coordinated by Sr Maria Adline Clergè, Provincial of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians in Haiti, and Sr Mariangela Fogagnolo, Superior of the work in Hinche.

In previous years, the “Milan Gospel Festival” has contributed to financing the building of ovens so as to enable bread to be provided free to the poor in Bethlehem (2002-2003 concert); the digging of wells for drinking water in Ethiopia (2004 concert); the support of the mission of the City Angels in Albania in collaboration with the Salesians, for the rehabilitation of street children and those abandoned and exploited (2005 concert); the provision of scholarships for poor and orphaned children in Perù (2006 concert); the furnishing of an operating theatre in the Salesian mission in Abobo, Ethiopia (2007 concert).

The evening, produced by Missioni Don Bosco Media Centre in Turin, will be broadcast live on television and transmitted in world vision via satellite by Telepace and in streaming on www.missionidonbosco.tv.
