(ANS – Sonada) – On Saturday 5 April  after an absence of 23 years, the “Gospel Melody Concert”, was revived and took to the stage. This  medley of songs and acting based on one single theme taken from the New Testament of the Bible was a competition open to youngsters and students from schools and parishes.

Held at the Salesian Studentate for Philosophy at Sonada, Darjeeling, the idea was that of Fr Martin Lakra SDB Parish Priest of St Teresa`s Parish, Sonada, who is also the one in charge of Youth Ministry in the Darjeeling-Kurseong Deanery, Fr Francis Gomes SDB, the Youth Animator of Salesian College Sonada and Fr Bikash Mondal SDB, the Dean of Studies.

About  160 students, forming eight teams took part, supported by their Principals, school teachers, catechists and others.

Guest of Honour was Colonel L. Parnell, Retired Indian Army from Kurseong, who presented a brief history of the evolution of Music and Art to those present. 

At the end of the performances, the jury for the contest,  all experts in their own field, adjudged St Michael`s High School, Darjeeling the winner, and the runner-up trophy was handed over to St Teresa`s School, Darjeeling.
Also present at the end of the concert was His Lordship Bishop Stephen Lepcha of Darjeeling, who encourages and supports such programmes for the youth in the diocese.
