At the end of the meeting, as is the tradition, Christmas Greeting were offered to the Rector Major Fr Pascual Chávez. Also present for the occasion were the members of the Presidential Committee of the Italian Federation led by the President Dr Bernardo Cannelli, and a number of Past Pupils from Rome. The Confederal President Francesco Muceo thanked the Rector Major, his Vicar Fr Adriano Bregolin and the World Delegate Fr Monteiro for the support and friendship shown to the Presidential Committee during the six-year period.
In addition the President referred to some of the events of 2007 including the involvement of the Presidential Committee in the organisation of the Eurobosco, held in Pamplona between 14 and 16 September, the XI Latin American Congress “Congrelat” in Guatemala, and also the renewal of the Statutes.
The Rector Major thanked the Past Pupils for the activities undertaken and recalled the importance of what they did as “sons of Don Bosco” for the education that had received. Fr Chávez asked for an ever-increasing presence on their part in the social field on behalf of the defence of values, and finally emphasised the need to develop the Association starting at local level, giving priority to formation.
The meeting ended with the presentation of the Golden Badge of the World Confederation to Prof. Giuseppe Acocella, Past Pupil of the Salesian house in Salerno, and at present the Vice President of the National Committee for Economy and Work (CNEL). Prof. Acocella, who last month spoke at the Bioethics Forum organised by the Italian Presidential Committee, thanks to his academic preparation and his work is very much involved in the social field.
