Germany – A meeting on Salesian spirituality for young people and religious |
On Monday, JUGEND DRITTE WELT staff members Claudia Steiner and Benedict Steilmann presented the JDW education material on the Development Campaign "Discover Sudan“ hot off the press, to the well-known German politician at the Federal Ministry in Bonn. "Discover Sudan“ features various information about the people of Sudan, especially the young, and presents opportunities for development of the largest of the African nations. Education, as the core of the Salesian Society’s work, has a key role in the campaign, which runs in close cooperation with the members of DON BOSCO NETWORK till the end of 2008. The networking also was highlighted by the production of the film project “Grace’s Journey” by the Italian NGO VIS.
“Around 1,500 registered teachers at the moment display the demand for the teaching material we offer”, Benedict Steilmann von JUGEND DRITTE reported to Mrs. Kortmann. According to the Don Bosco Philosophy the learning projects are considered best when they also lead to an activity. Young people in North and South can be real agents of change. The incoming money will be used for the construction of village schools in South Sudan and other Salesian Projects supported by DBN.
"The teaching materials deal sensitively with the difficult political and social situation in Sudan“, Kortmann commended. "This is what we need to illustrate the opportunities for development cooperation to students. “ The under secretary promised to organise and participate together with JUGEND DRITTE WELT in 2008 in teacher training in the regional capital Düsseldorf.
