13/6/2007 - Poland - Commemoration of the five oratorian martyrs

(ANS - Poznan) - Yesterday, the liturgical memorial of the Blessed martyrs Joseph Kowalskiand companions, there was a commemoration at the old church in via Wroniecka, site of the Salesian Oratory in Poznan, where the five young friends, who were beheaded at Dresden on 24 August  1942, received their formation in the Christian faith.

Presiding at the celebration was Mgr. Stanislao Gadecki, Auxiliary Archbishop of Szczecin-Kamien. Concelebrating with him, in addition to some Salesians and diocesan  parish clergy, were  Fr Giovanni Pryputniewicz, Vice Provincial of Wroclaw (PLO), Fr Cristoforo Szymczak, Rector of the "Don Bosco" house in Poznan, Fr Pietro Marchwicki, Vice Rector of the "Mary Help of Christians" house in Poznan, and Fr Andrea Godyn, director of the Polish Salesian Bulletin. Also present were a number of the faithful including some relatives of the Blesseds.

The homily was given by Fr Enrico dal Covolo, Postulator General for the Causes of Saints, who emphasised the Marian devotion of the five young men martyred on the day dedicated to Mary Help of Christians.

At the end of the celebration, Archbishop Gadecki conveyed to those present the blessing of the Holy Father and the greetings of Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Secretary of State of His Holiness.
