India – Bishop Aind: an appeal for flood victims |
(ANS – Chennai) – The Provincial Superior of Chennai, Fr. Jayapalan Raphael, has sent a statement to the ANS Agency highlighting the relief works that the Salesians are carrying out under the banner "Don Bosco Flood Relief Services", in the areas affected by the floods in the recent weeks in South of India.
The central DON BOSCO FLOOD RELIEF SERVICES team under Fr. Johnson – SURABI, Fr. Mani Lazar and Fr. Jesumanickam, has been reaching out to hundreds of people in need. Now Fr. Babu from Dharmapuri has joined the team. There are 100 youth volunteers with 80 bikes reaching out to interior places. Every day C000 food packets are distributed. Thanks to our Communities in DBC - Dharmapuri and DBC - Yelagiri for sending a lorry full of provisions and relief materials accompanied by volunteers. Thanks our communities in Dharmapuri, DB Yelagiri, DB Tpt, SHC Tpt, DB Katpadi, DB Pannuer, Lourdes shrine, Refuge - Broadway, St. Mary’s, Egmore, St. Bede’s, for their contributions. Some of our houses in the city, ans in Pavunjur, Thirukazhukundram, Madurantakam, Cuddalore are also reaching out to the needy people. More needs to the done.
1. Let us ALL do under the banner “DON BOSCO FLOOD RELIEF SERVICES” for visibility and mobilization of resources.
2. It is heartening to see many young people involved… Try to involve all our past pupils and cooperators from respective institutions/units to reach out to the unreachable people.
3. All those who are involved in the relief works, kindly send the daily reports and with long-term strategies.
4. DBICA team (Frs. John Christy, David along with Antony Christy) is preparing daily bulletin, reporting and updating… (BIS, whatsapp, facebook, Madha TV, youtube, etc.)
5. Those who are outside rain hit areas, continue to pray, raise awareness and mobilize more resources and send them to SURABI.
The next level of relief measures to be strategized and looked into are:
1. Providing Clothes and house hold materials
2. Organizing Medical camps
3. Renovation of the houses of the affected people
4. Renovation of our houses
