(ANS - Lisbon) - A meeting of the Salesian Region of the Mediterranean is taking place from 28 September to 2 October in the Casa Don Bosco of Lisbon, the headquarters of the Portuguese Province. The meeting aims to create new ways of cooperation - and strengthen existing ones - among the Provinces that make up the new Mediterranean region, resulting from the recent reorganization of the Salesian regions in Europe.

On the first two days, the participants worked in separate groups, according to the conferences to which they belong: the Iberian (which includes the provinces of Portugal and Spain) and CISI (the Provinces of Italy and the Middle East). In this phase the situation in each conference was assessed and analysed in order to figure out what should be brought to the meeting of the whole region.
The meeting was coordinated by the Councillor for the Mediterranean region, Fr Stefano Martoglio. Eleven provincials and seven coordinators of different areas took part, as well as five members of the General Council: the two Councillors of the Salesian Regions of Europe - Fr Martoglio, for the Mediterranean Region; and Fr Tadeusz Rozmus, for Central and Northern Europe North - and the heads of the three sectors of the Salesian Mission: Fr Fabio Attard, Councillor for Youth Ministry; Fr Filiberto González, Councillor for Social Communications; and Fr Guillermo Basañes, Councillor for the Missions.
It should be remembered that the map of the Salesians in Europe was changed during the 27th General Chapter last year, which ordered the reorganization of the European provinces in two regions – Central and Northern Europe and the Mediterranean Region - to meet the challenges that the new times pose to the Salesians and to consecrated life in general.
