(ANS – Mexico City) – On August 15th and 16th, the Province of Mexico City (MEM), lived some of the central celebrations for the Bicentenary of Don Bosco’s birth: perpetual and temporary professions were part of the conclusion of the journey done during these years and which becomes a spur for all the Salesian Family.

On August 15th, in the National Sanctuary of Mary Help of Christians, during the feast of the Assumption, faithful and members of the Salesian Family gathered to participate in the perpetual profession of Salesian confrères Ernesto Solís Pérez, José Vicente Apango Rivera and Víctor Guerrero Hernández. The Eucharist was presided over by Fr. Gabino Hernández Paleta, MEM Provincial, with 30 concelebrating priests.

In his homily Fr. Paleta emphasized that we celebrate the fidelity of God, who commits himself, and you complete it “in your life from the first profession and to which you say ‘yes’ (…), and I would dare to say that you have known your ‘fiancée’, knowing the significance of our concrete life, our Salesian life, and with your feet well set on the ground you tell the Lord “Here I am”, because He is the support of your call, the companion of your journey”, the superior said.

On August 16th the main feast of the Bicentenary of St. John Bosco’s birth was celebrated in the parochial Sanctuary of Mary Help of Christians, in the Federal District. There the various groups of the Salesian Family in Mexico gathered to participate in the solemn concelebration with the first professions of the FMA sisters of the Provinces of South Mexico, Mexico Monterrey and of the Salesians of the Provinces of Mexico City, Guadalajara and Antilles.

The ceremony was presided over by Fr. Gabino Hernández Paleta, Provincial of MEM, Fr. Hogo Orozco, Provincial of MEG and the representative of Fr. Francisco Batista, Provincial of the Antilles, Fr. Jorge Santiago, with the members of the respective provincial councils.

During the homily Fr. Gabino Hernández Paleta said: “Dear Salesian Family, there are many reasons to have a big heart, one grateful to God (…), it was the great gift of God to the world, to the Church and to us, in the person of St. John Bosco, taking in heritage the most beautiful Salesian spirit. It is in this context, dear brothers and dear sisters, that you say ‘yes’ to God, by living your first profession”.
