(ANS - Sicily)–The thirty-third POSEIDON PRIZE in memory of Michele Luca was awarded to the Salesian Congregation for its activities on behalf of migrants. The award ceremony was held at the Villa Comunale in Fiumefreddo in Sicily, on Sunday 2 August, beginning at 9.30 p.m.
Among the participants were Antonio Preziosi, Director of RAI; Barbara Capponi, presenter of RAI Tg1; Susanna Lemma, representative of Tg1; Fr Francesco Cereda, Vicar General of the Salesian Congregation; and Francis Muceo, World President of the Salesian Past Pupils.
The Prize was awarded to the Salesian Congregation in this year of the Bicentenary of the birth of Don Bosco for its activities on behalf of migrants. Among those present were the two highest military authorities in Sicily, Admiral Nicola De Felice from the Navy, and the Colonel in charge of the Air Force.
The POSEIDON Prize started in Fiumefreddo di Sicilia in 1993 on the initiative of the Poseidon Association by which it is still organized. It has a number of objectives: to focus public attention on the most significant environmental issues, prompting a more correct relationship between mankind and nature on the one hand and culture and institutions on the other; to contribute to the social, moral and cultural development of the society in which we live and work, and other objectives.
Since the late '80s, its activities have been marked by these issues.
