(ANS - Araçatuba) - During its 18th regular session on 1 June last, the Municipal Chamber of Araçatuba, on the recommendation of Jaime Jose da Silva, passed a vote of commendation to the "Centro Universitário Católico Salesian Auxilium", better known as "Unisalesiano", and its Director, Fr Luigi Favero, on the construction of a veterinary hospital, which opened last April.
The hospital, the second of its kind in Araçatuba, consists of three buildings, spread over a total area of 1,400 square metres. The first building is intended for the treatment of small animals. It has four clinics and rooms for laboratory tests, radiology and ultrasound.
In the second building there are three operating rooms, two for small animals and one for larger ones. One of these rooms is circular in shape, so that students can follow operations from the Unisalesiano balconies. The property also has a clinic for large animals, a "cold room" for animals, an anatomy lab and a "corral" for livestock management.
At present the hospital is only for animals belonging to students and staff, but the service will be extended to animals of the general public in the second half of this year, during business hours.
Fr Favero was present in the Chamber and followed the discussion. He spoke about the work done in building the veterinary hospital, which lasted two years. "It required a lot of dedication, many visits and much study. We had the collaboration of the Paulista State University, which helped us a lot," he said.
During the debate on the vote of approval the Councillor who moved the motion stressed the importance of the hospital for the training of new professionals and for the care of the animals of the town. "The Unisalesiano has again given proof that it believes in the potential of our city as a centre for education. This vote of approval by the Legislative Authority is a way of saying thanks for the commitment and dedication of Fr Luigi and all at Unisalesiano," he said.
