(ANS - Torre Annunziata)- Work continues on the Emera Project which works on behalf of 120 children, identified by the social services of the municipalities of Torre Annunziata, Boscoreale, Boscotrecase and Trecase. “Give most to those to whom life has given least” is the motto of the project run by the municipalities of Area No. 30. The project is entrusted to the non-profit organization of the Salesian association of Torre Annunziata: "Small Steps, Big Dreams ".

These young people have difficult stories. Their everyday life is marked by sacrifice and privation. They have wide eyes that speak of dreams that they do not even know they have. They are children with the profound innate gift of friendship, with a sense of resilience that keeps them balanced despite the constant dangers.  Their strength is an innocent wisdom that forces them to get to know and accept life on the streets. The reality that surrounds them, in fact, is often harsh and unbearable, but the joy and the enthusiasm of their young hearts keeps them going even when life is rough.

The project caters for 120 children and young people aged between 6 and 17. It gives them an opportunity to escape from social problems by means of activities aimed at managing and, where possible, solving the problems, giving children in difficulty opportunities to acquire social skills and become part of society.

There is a team of 17 educators. In addition to remedial schooling for all participants there are other programmes that offer specific support for children with special difficulties. These include a graphic laboratory (drawing workshops, painting, etc.), a desk that offers a listening ear and psychological support to the young people and their families, a pizza kitchen where the young people are introduced to the world of work at the famous Massè pizzeria in Torre Annunziata, and a sailing course. In addition, some children who have left school prematurely are helped to take the exam as private students.

The project carries on its activities at the M. Mazzarello Institute in Torre Annunziata; the Salesian Institute of Torre Annunziata; “Il Giardino dei Passanti” in Boscoreale and at the Cardinal Prisco Institute in Boscotrecase.

The end-of-year party will be held at 3.00 p.m. on 28 May at the Cardinal Prisco Institute in Boscotrecase. The young people and others will be entertained with music and games. Activities will continue during the summer with a residential camp in Ascea and two weeks of activities and entertainment in August at the “Piano Napoli di Passanti” in Boscoreale.
