(ANS – Morelia) – In response to the challenges of the city, the Don Bosco Oratory in Morelia, also known as "Rafael Feria", has become a favourable environment for families, where they can live and experience the values of a life free of violence. It is based on the pillars of the Preventive System of Don Bosco; reason, religion and loving kindness.

Bro. Victor Lopez Cisneros, SDB, coordinates the animation of this important apostolate, which teaches catechism to more than 1,200 children and youth of the city. At the Oratory they have as many as seventy football teams in six categories: pony, pre-child, children, pre-adolescent and youth male and female.

The pony category (for boys and girls aged 6 to 8) was introduced as part of an integrated pastoral-educative programme.  The earlier you begin transmit values, the easier it is to make good Christians and honest citizens. Today this category has ten teams. This allows for easy contact with the parents of the children and their families who are interested in   the various activities. "It is good that the moms and dads of the children are involved and it makes it easier to work for their Christian formation," says Bro. Victor.

The Oratory offers catechism classes for children and Bible courses for parents and interested adults, as well as certificate courses in subjects such as English, mathematics and physics.

The programme begins each Friday with the course on the Bible. On Saturdays there are courses for Communion and Confirmation, both morning and afternoon, with separate catechists for the two sacraments. Many parents also participate in the courses on Saturday morning. On Sunday morning there are three masses during which all present are invited to participate in the activities of the oratory.

Finally, the oratory has a group of altar servers who grow in faith and in service.

"We try to have something for everyone," concluded Bro. Víctor.
