(ANS – Qom) – On Wednesday 8 April, Bishop Enrico dal Covolo SDB, Rector of the Lateran Pontifical University went on a trip to Iran in order to meet the President Chancellor of the University for the Study of Religions and Confessions of Qom, Seyed Abolhassan Navvab, and to inaugurate fruitful cooperation between the two universities.
The agreement between the two academic institutions - "the Pope’s University" and the University of Iran, located in one of the holy cities for Shiite Muslims - also includes a student exchange.
For the Salesian prelate the journey is a very important stage in pursuit of interreligious dialogue at the academic level that he wants to promote. "I am making this trip because the Lateran, the University of the Bishop of Rome, is an outgoing institution, leaving our ivory towers and promoting the culture of encounter. I will ask my fellow academics in Iran to think together and share a significant gesture for the Jubilee of Mercy," Bishop dal Covolo said to the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.
