(ANS - Rome)– Yesterday 4 December, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, Rector Major of the Salesians, with the consent of the members of the General Council, appointed Fr Mario Yamanouchi new Provincial of the Saint Francis Xavier Province of Japan.
Mario Yamanouchi was born on 8 December 1955 in Saeiki, Japan. His family migrated to Argentina where he got to know the Salesians. He did his Novitiate in Manucho, Argentina in 1975-76 and made his first profession on 31 January 1976. He made final profession on 24 January 1982 in Córdoba. He was ordained a priest on 21 December 1984 in San Juan, Argentina.
Between 1984 and 1996 he carried out his pastoral mission in various places in Argentina. He was Rector in Córdoba, La Plata and Ramos Mejía. He was also novice master, and Provincial Councillor in the provinces of Córdoba and La Plata.
In 1996 he moved from the Province of Buenos Aires to the Province of Tokyo. In Japan he has held various responsibilities from 2007 to the present as Provincial Delegate for Formation, for the Salesian Family, Past Pupils, ADMA and finally as Vice-Provincial.
