(ANS - Cagliari) - From 9 to 19 October next, the Salesians of Cagliari will celebrate the centenary of their presence in the city with several different initiatives. To mark the occasion, on Saturday 11 October, honorary citizenship will be awarded to Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, representing "all the Salesians who have given their time and talents for the good of the city and the region."

At 6.00 p.m. on Thursday 9and Friday 17, at the theatre inthe parish of St. Paul, the history of the 100 years of the Salesians in Cagliari will be presented. The book, a collaboration of some past pupils, journalists and friends of the community, will be presented by Romano Cannas, former director of RAI-3 and Anthony Muroni, director of the Unione Sarda newspaper.

The secondweekend of October will be particularly intense. On the Friday morning, Salesians who have worked in the Institute will meet with Bishop Mauro Morfino, SDB, of Alghero-Bosa, and Holy Mass will follow. In the evening, the playground will come alive with the show "#noisalesianiche," during which the arrival of the Rector Major of the Salesians, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, is anticipated.

Fr Ángel will meet the young people of the schools on the morning of the next day, and then preside at Mass with the young people and their parents. In the afternoon, at the Cagliari Cityhall, he will be awarded honorary citizenship. In the evening, after vespers with the Salesian communities, he will close the day with the young people of the Salesian Youth Movement of Sardinia, joining them in a prayer vigil.

The Rector Majorwill end his visit on Sunday 12 by meeting the young people of the diocese and presiding over Mass in the chapel of the Institute. The day will continue with group work for the young people.

Finally, on Sunday 19,the concluding event: “Ti porto in Oratorio”, (I'll meet you in the Oratory), an all-day show for schools and families in Piazza dell’Unione Sarda.
