(ANS- Rome)–Beginning in the academic year 2014-2015 the School of Catechetics of the Faculty of Education of the Salesian Pontifical University will offer a new course in Education and Religion.

The new curriculum aims at preparing personnel, competent to work in the field of the teaching of the Catholic religion in schools, and empowered to organize, manage and promote activities related to religion in the school and in the community.

The course will last four semesters. It is open to those who hold the degree of Bachelor of Science in Education with specialization in Religious Education or another qualification recognized as equivalent. In addition to specific academic subjects, there will be a period of practical experience of  methodology in the teaching of religion. The course will conclude with an examination for the Licentiate.

More particularly, this curriculum comprises courses aimed at preparing managers and experts in specific areas of ecclesial activities, in schools and in Christian communities, such as religion teachers, educators in Christian communities and managers and coordinators in ecclesial bodies, like the Diocesan Office for Schools, and for Religious Education and trainers of religion teachers and experts in campus ministry.

The courseis structured on the basis of the Understanding between the Ministry of Education (Universities and Research) and the Italian Episcopal Conference for teachers of Catholic religion. This understanding was drawn up in dialogue with Fr Daniel Saottini, Head of the National Council for Teaching the Catholic Religion of the Italian Episcopal Conference.
