(ANS - Rome)– On Wednesday 11 June, the Rector Major of the Salesians, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, with the consent of the General Council, appointed Fr Eugenio Riva new Superior of the Vice-Province of Mary Seat of Wisdom at the Salesian Pontifical University (UPS).

Eugenio Riva was born in Treviglio, near Bergamo, on 29 December 1950. He entered the Novitiate at Missagliain 1967, made his first profession there on 16 August 1968 and his perpetual profession at San Tarcisio in Rome on 14 September 1974. He was ordained priest on 27 May 1978.

He was a member of the house council in Nave (1981-1994), Rector in Treviglio (1994-1999), and Rector in Nave (2005-2006).

He has also served as Provincial, first in the Province of Lombardy-Emiliana  from 1999 to 2005, and then in the Province of Triveneto from 2006 to 2012.

At present he is Rector of the Salesian community of Nave.
Fr Riva succeeds Fr Joaquim D'Souza as Superior of the Vice-Province of the UPS.
