(ANS - Lubumbashi) - From 9 to 11 April the 6th Bible Days was held at the auditorium of the St Francis de Sales Institute in Lubumbashi. The event was jointly organized by the Salesian Theological Studentate and the St. Paul Inter-diocesan Major Seminary in Lubumbashi.

It was attended by students from both institutions, by professors of Protestant theological institutes, and also by religious men and women, with an attendance of about 200 persons per day. The theme developed by the speakers -coming from Louvain, Paris and Kinshasa- was "On ways of reading the Bible: The inexhaustible richness of the Word."

Fr Willy Libambu, Academic Secretary General of the Catholic University of the Congo, presented a small example of patristic reading of the Bible starting from St. Augustine. It was then followed by Fr Claude Tassin, professor emeritus of the Catholic Institute of Paris, who highlighted the importance of Jewish sources for the interpretation of the New Testament.

On the second day, Fr Roger Burggraeve, professor emeritus of the Flemish Catholic University of Leuven, presented a philosophical reading of Abraham's intercession on behalf of the inhabitants of Sodom. In the afternoon, Fr Jean-Marie Matutu, from the Faculty of Theology of the Catholic University of Congo, had developed a reflection on Psychology in relation to Theological in the interpretation of the Bible.

On the last day, the speakers focused on how African Christians read the Bible, through a lecture by Fr Fidèle Matutu, who is also from the Catholic University of Congo -Faculty of Theology. He tried to show the authority and the relevance of a popular reading, while Sr Josée Ngalula, from the same faculty, presented how the African women read the Bible, through some Sriptural examples.

The acts of the Bible Days will be published by the Don Bosco Publishers of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
