(ANS - Rome) - The news of the election of the tenth successor of Don Bosco, announced immediately by ANS with a tweet and a press release, went round the world in a few seconds - reported in the media, posted on Facebook, and twittered and re-twittered by thousands of followers. And the print media were just as active.

ANS is still working overtime to sort the many requests for photos and to respond to those who want to come right away for an interview.A press conference is being organized.

As you can well imagine, there has been a lot of movement on the network – it’s like an oratory playground!

The Rector Major has been receiving good will messages and congratulations. From among the many expressions of esteem and friendship, we report the statement of Archbishop Nosiglia of Turin.

"With great emotion and gratitude to the Lord , on behalf of the Church of Turin , I welcome the election of Fr Ángel Fernández Artime as tenth successor of Don Bosco.

In the year that marks the start of the Jubilee celebrations for the second centenary of the birth of Don Bosco, the election of Fr Fernández Artime reminds us of Don Bosco’s dream of Patagonia. The dream has been a reality for some time and it seems to reach its definitive fulfilment now.

Here in Turin we look forward to many joyful and faith-filled encounters in the coming months with the Rector Major and with the Salesian communities both male and female.

It all began here in Valdocco, and so it is here the Salesian Jubilee will find its focus and its climax, especially with the  visit of the Pope who is both Argentinean and Piedmontese. The exposition of the Shroud will be another extraordinary encounter between the Church and the city as we welcome the sons and daughters of Don Bosco. The diocese of Turin is well aware and  grateful for the service and dedication that the Salesian communities, from their foundation, have shown on behalf of the people of our region, in parishes and schools, and in all the services of evangelization and social assistance run by the Salesians.

Today we feel even more united to the Salesian world in the priority attention to young people and the renewed effort in the mission, that the dream of Don Bosco may continue for many years and become ever more a reality in our midst .

+ Cesare Nosiglia,
Archbishop of Turin"
