(ANS - San Antonio)- From 17 to 20 February there was a meeting in San Antonio, Texas, of schools of CIMAC - NAC- MESOAMERICA - a body comprising 14 provinces of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians ( FMA) and the Salesians. The meeting took place in the Provincial House of the western province of the FMA.
Participation in the meeting was very large due to the large number of provinces involved, both FMA and SDB, in the area CIMAC - MESOAMERICA - Antilles (Interprovincial Commission of FMA Provinces in Mexico - Central America and the Caribbean; and the SDB Provinces of Mexico - Venezuela - Antilles , Central America, and Haiti, plus the Daughters of the Divine Saviour) and the NAC (North American Conference).
The purpose of these meetings is to strengthen collaboration between the areas to improve the quality and educational and pastoral effectiveness of Salesian Schools, in relation to the policies developed during the Third Continental Meeting of American Salesian Schools (ESA III). To this end, various issues were addressed:
• An intervention by Bill Goddman and Anne Chapas on the Standard of Performance system of Salesian schools in the United States and the Network of Salesian Schools in the four Salesian Provinces of the U.S.
• Guidelines to Assist Teachers - by Fr Miguel Ángel Garcia, delegate for Salesian schools and training centres.
• The Apostolic Exhortation Evangelii Gaudium in the teaching of religion - by Sister Sara Sierra, a member of the Youth Ministry Sector of the FMA.
• “Education in Communication Today, virtual scenarios, youth culture, media citizenship" – by Sr. Susana Li, coordinator of the American FMA communication team.
Some important resolutions were passed with specific operative strategies: to ensure the functioning of the CIMAC-MESOAMERICA team; to put into practice the conclusions of ESA III, (general policies, guidelines and directives) in provincial plans and projects, and as material for reflection and assimilation in all sectors of Youth Ministry.
