RMG – Witnesses to the radical approach of the Gospel: a Salesian and biblical reflection |
(ANS – Rome) – The 27th December, Feast of St John the Evangelist, the presidency of the Salesian Biblical Association (ABS) held a meeting in the Salesian Generalate. Aside from being a means for communication amongst members, the association offers to anyone interested, information on its activities and material to help understand the Bible from a Salesian perspective.
The Association, founded in 1982 at Cremisan (Israel) with encouragement from Fr Egidio Viganò, aims at the ongoing formation of its members, Salesians and members of the Salesian Family, who work in teaching, Biblical ministry and Biblical leadership in the Salesian Congregation.
The meeting had three aims: first to evaluate the decisions taken at the previous meeting (13-14 April 2013); second, plan eventual new initiatives up to the next Congress which will take place in 2016; third and final objective, begin preparations for this Congress.
The day concluded with a meeting with the Rector Major who was informed of the activities carried out and the new initiatives planned. Fr Chávez expressed his appreciation for their work and invited them to continue, so that Salesians and young people can live enlightened by the Word.
The task of the ABS is to accompany the Congregation’s journey through reflection on the Word; to do this, it has offered a series of Lectio (readings and reflections) in preparation for the upcoming General Chapter 27 and is about to publish a work on the central theme of the GC 27 in Italian, Spanish and English.
Members of the ABS Presidency are: Fr Juan J. Bartolomé, President (secretary of the Rector Major); Fr Giorgio Zevini, Vice president; Fr Miguel A. Álvarez, Councillor Europe, (Rector of the Theologate - SSE); Fr Pedro H. Medrano, councillor for America (Parish priest and Provincial councillor - CAM); Fr Shaji John Puykunnel, Councillor for Asia and Africa, (Rector of the postnovitiate at Sonada - INC); Fr Corrado Pastore, Secretary (Professor at the UPS).
