The 18 Delegates from the houses in Ibarra, Guayaquil, Cuenca and Quito, gathered in the “Mary Help of Christians” Retreat House where Fr Juan Bottasso spoke about Don Bosco. Fr Bottasso described the great confidence Don Bosco had in the means of social communication, as instruments which serve the mission of evangelisation and education, and also pointed out how communication cannot be merely information, but needs to have a propositive role.
Among the current challenges it was pointed out how nowadays there are so many means of communication with which to work, create, evangelise, educate, animate... always preserving the Salesian Style and never forgetting that as members of the Salesian community it is necessary to be uptodate about events of the Congregation.
The course achieved its aims: to provide the correspondents with the means necessary for a correct use of the language of journalism and to teach them the techniques associated with production in the different forms of media.
The meeting also led to agreements regarding practical issues of planning: the sending from each centre a monthly news bulletin, the updating of the Province site, the creation and the animation of journalist groups in the various educational centres and the task of being the official spokespersons for their centres in internal and esternal communication.
The primary role of the network of Salesian correspondents in Ecuador is that of supporting Province productions. The new correspondents now join the 26 already in existence and so the network now has 44 members.
