(ANS – Vienna) – Fr Rudolf Osanger, appointed Provincial for Salesians in Austria in January 2008, will be installed on 15 August. The celebration will take place at Don Bosco Haus Vienna. Fr Osanger takes over the direction of “the Guardian Angels” province of Austria from Fr Franz Wöß.
 
Thinking over the years that have passed, the outgoing provincial FrWöß recalled in particular the Salesian Jubilee events: 100 years in Austria celebrated in 2003 and the pilgrimage to Sonntagberg in Lower Austria on Trinity Sunday 2008.

Addressing himself to Salesians and lay people Fr Osanger encouraged them to strengthen their spirit and commitment to the mission which Don Bosco began. Over the next six years they have the task of “ rediscovering the Gospel with the young and starting afresh from Don Bosco”. “This especially means a commitment to the weak and most disadvantaged”.

The new provincial has been actively involved in introducing guidelines for experiences for young people in Austria. Out of school activity is important to him: “We need to get involved in the ways young people discover values like community and a deep sense of life`s meaning.” For the future, particular importance will be given to preparations for the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the foundation of the Salesian Congregation in 2009.
