(ANS - Abuja) – On Tuesday last a group of terrorists from Boko Haram killed at least 50 people in a series of attacks in the cities of Yola and Kano in Nigeria. According to the Global Terrorism Index, the terrorist group Boko Haram last year caused the highest number of deaths in the world.

According to local police sources the first explosion occurred on Tuesday near a market and resulted in 34 dead and 80 injured, mostly women and children. Then there were two simultaneous explosions in the most important city of the north of the country. Two girls aged 11 and 18 caused the deaths of 15 people and left 50 injured.

Boko Haram often uses women and girls in its attacks. The youngest was a girl aged only seven who was used in an attack in February. They are forcibly recruited and used as "unwitting instruments of death", as the explosive charge is triggered remotely by terrorists using a mobile phone.

According to the Global Terrorism Index, this terrorist group killed 6,644 people in 2014, while the Islamic State killed 6,073. The recent counter-offensive of the Abuja government regained territory lost last year but Boko Haram responded with a series of bombings and urban attacks that resulted in more than two thousand deaths in 2015 and caused the exodus of tens of thousands of people.
