Bangladesh – Two Salesians for a new missionary foundation |
(ANS – Utrail) – On 24 and 25 May 2015 all roads in Bangladesh led to Utrail as the Salesian Parish witnessed the two mega events: Blessing of the newly constructed Auditorium on 24 May and the Consecration of the Church of Mary Help of Christians on 25 May, 2015.

24 May witnessed the blessing of newly constructed hall at the basement of the Church at 4.00 p.m. by Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop George Kocherry and Rt. Rev. Paul Ponen, Bishop of Mymensingh. The other dignitaries included Advocate Pramod Makhin, M.P., Mr. Paolo Menini, President of Bhakita Foundation, Rome and other Government Officials. A large number of people from all faiths from the locality were invited for the occasion.
After the solemn entrance to the Hall, a cultural programme was staged. Colorful dances kept the audience enthralled. Every item was punctuated with a speech from the dignitaries. A fellowship meal was served to all the invitees.
The newly constructed Church,dedicated to Mary Help of Christians, was solemnly consecrated on 25th May at 9.30 a.m. by Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop George Kocherry and Rt. Rev. Paul Ponen, Bishop of Mymensingh. Melodius singing by the seminarians added charm to the celebration. After the Mass during the brief progamme in the auditorium the Souvenir was released. Fr. Samuel Mondol, representing the Provincial, in his speech commented, "Utrail is the Turin of Bangladesh as it hosts the Newly constructed Church dedicated to Mary Help of Christians".
Salesian Mission under the able leadership of Fr. Francis Alencherry the Parish priest and Rector of Utrail, has progressed by leaps and bounds. The Salesians at twin presences of Utrail and Lokhikul run Parishes, hostels and a large number of substations. At Utrail there is also the Pre-novitiate, Aspirantate and a School.
