(ANS - San Paolo) -From May 12 to 14, the second meeting on Campus Ministry by the Salesian Institutions of Higher Education (IUS) of America was held. The meeting took place in the Campus of Pius XI UNISAL San Paolo, Brazil, and was attended by 23 people from 12 institutions of Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Chile, Argentina and Brazil, all animators of Campus Ministry in those institution.

The meeting was the second planned by the Commission for University Pastoral Care of America, presided over by Fr Félix Serrano, Rector of Mesoamerican University of Guatemala, as part of the IV Common Program of IUS - America. The Commission's program is developed in line with the global program of the IUS, which aims to reflect on the pastoral practice of IUS and to develop directives and guidelines for a model of Salesian ministry in all institutions of higher education. Other similar meetings are being developed this year in other regions for the IUS of Europe, Asia and Africa.              

During the meeting, the data of an investigation into the practices and the organization of Campus Ministry in each of the institutions were presented; they reflected on the guidelines of the Church and of the Salesian Congregation with respect to pastoral work in universities and shared a number of good practices. The thoughts discussed during the days of the meeting highlighted the need to develop a ministry which was more attentive to the needs and to the expectations of young university students, as well as the wealth and opportunities that arise from the application of the Salesian charism in the context of higher education.
