(ANS – Dalat) –To raise funds to build a playground for the youngsters in Dalat city, the Savio Football Cup is being held this summer by the Don Rua House of Studies in Dalat. It got under way on Monday 16 June. It is of course timed to coincide with World Cup 2014!
Two groups have join the Savio Cup:
U-14: Twelve teams from the following parishes have joined this group: Don Bosco, Chanh Toa, Van Thanh, Thanh Mau, Thien Lam, Tung Lam, Lang Biang, Minh Giao, An Binh, Du sinh, Ha Dong and Don Bosco Oratory.
U-17: Comprises five teams: Lang Biang, Chanh Toa, Thanh Mau, Van Thanh and Don Bosco Oratory.
The attendance at the opening ceremony included Fr Paul Le Duc Huan, Vicar General of Dalat diocese, Fr Thomas Vu Kim Long, Rector of Dalat House of Studies, Fr Gregory Nguyen An Phu Dong, Head of Youth Ministry for Dalat Deanery, the Salesians and numerous football fans from the parishes.
In his opening address, the Vicar General of Dalat diocese thanked all the Salesians of Don Rua House of Studies for their plan to build a summer playground for the youngsters in Dalat. He wished the teams ‘all the best’, and expressed the hope that they would experience joy in the Lord.
The aim of the Savio Cup is to promote fun, relationship and team building. All matches are on even dates (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday). The refurbishing of the football field at Don Rua House of Studies has recently been completed, and the field (and the teams!) are now ready for this Savio Cup.
The final matches of the two groups will take place on Sunday June 29.
By the beginning of August next, the Youth Ministry Commission in Dalat will join forces with the Don Rua House of Studies to hold another football cup for the older youth (U-25s).
