(ANS - Rome)- After consultation with the members of his Council , Fr Pascual Chávez, Rector Major of the Salesians, yesterday 15 January appointed Fr Petrus Obermüller new Superior of the Guardian Angels Province in Austria.

Fr Obermüller was born in Linz, Austria, on 27 August 1961. He made his first religious profession in Oberthalhem on 15 August 1982 and his perpetual profession vows in Johnsdorf exactly six years later on 15 August 1988. On 30 June 1991 he was ordained priest in Benediktbeuern.

He was Vice-Rector of the Provincial House, in 2002-2003 and in 2004 he became Rector of the Salesianum community in Vienna, a position he still holds.

He was a member of the Provincial Council from 2002 to 2008 and from 2011 until the present: Provincial Delegate for Youth Ministry between 2003 and 2006, and Vice-Provincial 2008-2011. He was also in charge of the Volunteer Missionary movement and started several youth initiatives in Austria.

He participated in General Chapters 25 and 26 and will also participate in the upcoming 27th General Chapter as Provincial designate.

Fr Obermüller succeeds Fr Rudolf Osanger and will take up his new position in August 2014.
