(ANS – Rome) – The Rector Major, Fr Pascual Chávez, has written a letter to every Salesian in the Congregation noting the choices made by the Project Europe Commission. These were drawn up at the first meeting of the Commission in Rome from 17 to 19 July and then immediately approved by the General Council.

Early interventions, to be carried out before December 2010, involve the various levels of animation and government of the Congregation, ranging from the General council to local communities.

Formation, Youth Ministry, Missions and Social Communications Departments have programmed a series of meetings which will involve representatives from European Provinces. These meetings are aimed at the exchange of knowledge and experiences amongst Salesian communites and their work in Europe.

Regional Councillors, as well as Provincial Conferences in each Region, have been invited to reflect on the relocation and redimensioning of some works, and informing the Rector Major of some “renewed or new presences”.

Each province has been invited to foster initiatives of awareness, and to spread Project Europe through information, including greater contact with ANS, and by promoting twinning arrangements and exchanges of experiences with other provinces.

European novices, as took place for the first time this year, will come together in Turin to celebrate the Solemnity of Mary Help of Christians.

With an invitation also to non-European province to contribute their own reflections, the Rector Major finished his letter saying: “Project Europe is taking its first steps; as you have seen, in this first phase the greater number of interventions are in reference to European Regions and Provinces, because we are right at the beginning of the process. Project Europe is aimed at ensuring the vitality and fruitfulness of the Salesian charism in Europe; but we are really talking about a commitment of the entire Congregation”.

The sdb.org website has opened a page on Project Europe where you can find the complete text of the letter.
