Italy – The inauguration of the academic year of IUSVE with records of registrations |
(ANS - Mestre)- The Academic Year inaugurated yesterday, Thursday, November 14, at the Salesian University Venice (IUSVE) offers a very rich programme. About 700 students were present to hear the inaugural lecture on "The value of thought" by Professor Luigina Mortari, Director of the Department of Philosophy, Education and Psychology at the University of Verona.
IUSVE has more than 1,600 students and the student population continues to grow (+30 % over the last two years). Enrolments have increased and reached 328 in 2011/12. The three-year degree programmes, with limited entry, are completely sold out. Courses in Science and Techniques of Communication were already fully subscribed by the month of May with 700 applications for the 200 available places. The department of Psychology had waiting lists even before the summer.
There are 200 teachers in the eight degree programmes and five Master's programmes and further training courses. More than 300 subjects are taught in approximately 12,000 hours of lectures. This year the range of courses on offer has been extended with two new magisterial courses in Web Marketing & Digital Communication and Creativity and Communication Design. There are excellent employment opportunities, especially for those who graduate in Communication: 89.2 % of graduates had employment after three years and 100% of those who completed the Master’s Programme.
In addition to the quality of teaching, the university is known for its strong focus on the person. "All new students come to IUSVE after a visit to the campus, an aptitude test and an orientation interview. Although the number of students has increased, we have chosen not to change the student-teacher ratio in order to safeguard the standard of the courses. Courses and workshops have been arranged so as not to exceed fifty students in classrooms and 25 in the laboratories."
