(ANS – Irapuato)– On 26 July last, the Salesians of the Maria Regina Community in Irapuato, in the State of Guanajuato, established an agreement of collaboration with the Università Cattolica Vasco de Quiroga (UVAQ), which will offer young people of the city a chance to study engineering at a Catholic Institute of Higher Education.

The agreement was signed formally by three parties: by Professor Raúl Martínez Rubio, Rector, and Doctor Gerardo Mosqueda Martínez, as President of the administration council on behalf of UVAQ; by Fr Alejandro Zepeda Santoscoy and Fr Salvador Murguía Villalobos, Provincial of the Salesians of Mexico-Guadalajara, on behalf of the Salesian Community, and by Bishop José de Jesús Martínez Zepeda, Bishop of Irapuato as witness.

Collaboration between the two Institutes will allow UVAQ to offer higher education to the young people of Iraputo, through its programme of virtual instruction as well as live teaching in the university course in robotics and industrialization, leading to a technical baccalaureate. The Salesians will be involved in the initiative insofar as they provide the physical space for the programme, and by offering pastoral assistance to the new university community.

The Università Cattolica Vasco de Quiroga, with headquarters at Morelia, Michoacan, has centres in various cities and from now on these will include the Centre at Irapuato.  In this way UVAQ is meeting the needs of the industrial sector, particularly in automobile engineering , in the area of Bajio – which includes the cities of Celaya, Salamanca, Irapuato, Leon and Aguascalientes – and, more importantly, the needs of the young people, enabling them to find a good job, thanks to the all round education they receive in human values and Christian virtues.
