(ANS – Guwahati) – The Don Bosco Institute, Guwahati, organized the Youth Expo jointly with Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD), Sriperumbudur, for the youth of North East India, from 8th-14th February, 2013.
The theme for the Youth Expo 2013, was “Capacity Building Training in Life Skills, Citizenship and Peer Education for the Youth of North-Eastern Region”.
“Youth are the Leaders of Tomorrow; so Nurture them Today”, said Fr. Johnson Parackal, Executive Director, DBI, in his welcome address, during the inauguration of the “Youth Expo 2013”.
The week long Expo ignited the minds and spirits of the participating youths. The programme, according to the different groups of participants, has helped instill in them the power of unity. The different cultural exchanges have helped them to know and be together with each other, which they believe has ignited the process of social change.
The grand finale of the Youth Expo, held on 14th February 2013, witnessed the same spirit, with the presence of His Excellency, Sri Ranjit Sekhar Mooshahary, Governor of Meghalaya, as the Chief Guest, and Fr. V. M. Thomas, sdb, Salesian Provincial, Guwahati, as Guest of Honour, with the students and facilitators of both the programme and the Institute.
Sri Mooshahary, in his speech, stressed inculcating the right human values in youth and providing them the right path for their own and societal development. He said, “You are full of dreams now, but transform them into realities.”
Fr. V. M. Thomas expressed his views on the importance of holding such programmes continuously in the region, by which the right leadership skills of the students can be built up. He said, “You are our future and you are a transforming power.”
The grand finale of Youth Expo 2013 highlighted some colourful presentations of the traditional songs and dances. The occasion also witnessed the release of a book titled “The Secrets of High Achievers - 17 Lessons from the World`s Great Achievers”, authored by Fr. John Parankimalil. The book is a wake-up call for those who aspire to be achievers. The Governor, while releasing the book, emphasized the students to stand united in the society, build their own future, achieve high success in life and be the World Changers.
